Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy is a highly-specialized form of manual therapy that corrects pain and dysfunction by treating trigger points, muscle adhesions, and fascial patterns. These trigger points, adhesions and fascial patterns can form due to specific trauma, postural pattern, or series of repetitive movements. Neuromuscular Therapy sessions utilize precise treatment protocols to correct these patterns by releasing tight fascia, palpating and decreasing trigger points in tight bands of muscle and releasing areas of stuck muscle in an effective and efficient manner. The muscular areas of pain, and the surrounding muscles that are affected due to biomechanics and compensation for the primary pain are treated using these protocols. Pressure used during treatment is based on the client’s threshold. Neuromuscular treatments are rarely full body ; the work is concentrated on the primary and secondary areas of the body that are causing the pain you are experiencing, and limiting range of motion.

Ortho-Bionomy

In Ortho-Bionomy, we use this proprioceptive communication system as a way of communicating with the body through direct neurological information. Moving the affected joint stimulates the proprioceptors, effectively sending the signal: “hey, pay attention here.” Once a release position is found, compression is usually applied. Compression is another way the proprioceptors are stimulated, so an even clearer message is sent: “Hey, notice THIS.” Now we have combined muscular and neurological information available to the body about how the body is experiencing itself at this moment. In Ortho-Bionomy, the focus is on finding a release position that creates comfort, so that the body notices how to be comfortable. Once the body is comfortable, it relaxes. When it relaxes, the natural, inherent harmony of the physical structure can reassert itself.

In “Five Element Shiatsu” , the interweaving of practical and theoretical components is aimed at promoting an energetic balance of the interwoven elements of human life: body, mind and spirit.

Shiatsu tries to balance the body’s energy or Qi in order to promote balance, health and healing by applying pressure to meridians which are energy pathways and tsubos which are meridian points.

Where the Qi is jitsu ( excessive) our intention is to disperse, and where kyo is (deficient) our intention is to support.
